Edgar Plans is a Spanish artist born in 1977. In his works, Edgar Plans presents his cartoon characters with mouse ears and big eyes on backgrounds decorated with scribbles. These seemingly spontaneous writings recall the paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat or Cy Twombly.
Edgar Plans is notably influenced by graffiti, street art, comic strips, illustrations and animated films. But it's above all his characters, which Plans describes as "animal heroes", that have made the artist a household name and led to numerous gallery exhibitions. Plans' work is highly sought-after on the art market, and his paintings have sold for significant prices.
Despite their rather vivid color palette, the works deal exclusively with serious subjects, often touching on issues such as sexism, racism and jealousy.
